The Garage Playroom — Residential | Sydney, Australia

Not every family has a spare room available for play. This project shows how a compact garage can become a purposeful playroom that supports movement, creativity, independence and quieter downtime.

The layout balances active and focused play without filling every part of the room. Pipe Climbers, a Swedish ladder and a climbing wall create varied physical challenges that support coordination, strength and climbing confidence. Firm floor matting and dedicated safety matting establish clear areas for movement and landing.

A shared arts-and-crafts zone gives two siblings at different developmental stages space to create alongside each other. The modular play sofa can shift between reading, construction and imaginative play, while the accessible Toy Hub keeps a manageable selection of resources visible and supports independent tidy-up.

Movable, off-the-shelf furniture allows the playroom to change as the children grow and their interests develop. Soft blue, mint and deeper pink are balanced with small amounts of mustard, giving the garage a clear identity while keeping the overall space settled and easy to use.
