The Adventure Trail Playroom — Residential | Chandler, Queensland, Australia

The Adventure Trail Playroom turns the walls and ceiling into a connected active-play experience while keeping the centre of the room open for everyday play. Rather than treating each climbing element as a separate feature, the design creates multiple routes for children to move vertically, horizontally and around the corner of the room.

Pipe Climbers, adjustable climbing holds and a Swedish ladder offer varied physical challenges. Gymnastics rings, a trapeze and a swing provide further opportunities to hang, balance and build strength, coordination and body awareness. Dedicated safety matting defines the active zone and provides suitable impact protection beneath the equipment.

The room also supports constructive, small-world and skills-based play. Modular furniture and an accessible Toy Hub keep selected resources visible and within reach, while additional toys can be rotated as the children’s interests change. This creates a balanced playroom where energetic movement, focused play and independent choice can happen within the same space.

A hand-painted mural extends around the active-play area, connecting the equipment and wall surfaces through colour and movement. The result gives active play a permanent place within the family home without sacrificing the flexible floor space children need for building, creating and playing together.
